FAQ
Dubai Transit Visa Questions, Answered
Who needs one, 48 versus 96 hours, fees, documents and what airlines check at boarding.
Yes. On a through ticket you can stay in the transit area, which has lounges, rest areas and an airport hotel inside the terminal. You do not clear immigration. If your onward flight is cancelled, however, you may need to leave the airport, so we suggest a pre-arranged transit visa from us for long connections, rather than relying on arrival processing at an unexpected hour.
Japanese passports are listed for entry on arrival, but we recommend a pre-arranged transit visa for planned stopovers and self-transfers. It confirms your status before you leave Narita or Haneda, answers any check-in questions and protects you if a delay pushes you out of the airport. Rules can change with little notice, and an approval in hand avoids depending on online sources that may be out of date.
Check the visa and health entry rules of your African destination first, since airlines will check them at departure. Carry your boarding passes for both legs and confirm your bags are checked through. If the gap is long or onward flights are infrequent, we recommend a pre-arranged transit visa so a missed connection can be handled from a hotel instead of the terminal.
Yes, but you will need to leave Dubai International, clear immigration and travel by road to Zayed International, which takes time. Japanese passports are listed for entry on arrival, but we recommend a pre-arranged transit visa for an airport change, so your entry is settled before you land. Leave several hours between flights and allow for a fresh check-in in Abu Dhabi.
