FAQ
Dubai Transit Visa Questions, Answered
Who needs one, 48 versus 96 hours, fees, documents and what airlines check at boarding.
Plan for a passport valid for at least six months, a confirmed onward ticket and a clear entry plan. US passports are listed for entry on arrival, but for a premium stopover with hotel and tours we recommend a pre-arranged transit visa from us, so your entry is settled before you fly and a schedule change does not disrupt your plans. Any UAE airport, including Zayed International, accepts it.
We are not aware of a 2026 change specific to US passports; they remain listed for entry on arrival. The main 2026 update was a June expansion of arrival entry for some other nationalities holding US residence permits. Because rules move quickly, we recommend a pre-arranged transit visa for any stopover where you will leave the airport, and we check current requirements when you apply.
No. US passport holders can receive a free 90-day UAE visit visa on arrival in Abu Dhabi, rather than a transit visa. This allows them to leave the airport and explore Abu Dhabi during a short stopover without arranging a visa in advance. The pre-arranged 48-hour and 96-hour transit visas are mainly for travellers who are not eligible for visa on arrival. US citizens generally do not need these visas for a regular stopover.
No UAE visa is needed if you stay airside on a through ticket. Flying home, note that Zayed International has US Customs and Border Protection preclearance for some US-bound flights, so you may clear US entry before departure. If your connection is long or might break overnight, we recommend a pre-arranged transit visa so you can leave the airport without depending on arrival processing.
Apply with us online once your flights are booked: choose the 48-hour or 96-hour transit visa, upload your passport scan and photo, and add your onward ticket. Our team reviews it before submission and emails the approval. US passports are listed for entry on arrival, but a pre-arranged visa makes check-in simpler and protects your stopover if rules or flight times change.
